I WATCHED OVER 400 EPISODES OF TURKISH SERIES

Since the pandemic started, I have watched more than 12 Turkish series which amounts to more than 400 episodes. My goal at the time was to fill my free time with something entertaining while I improved my Turkish language skill. The very first series I watched with immense dedication is titled Kiraz Mevsimi and even though I could not fully understand what was being said, I followed the action. Years later, there are a few things I have learnt.  Turkish series are typically broadcast on TV and streaming services. Each episode on average lasts 1 hour which explains why most people believe them to be too long and stretched. There are two most popular types which are the Summer series and the Winter series.

Watching these series help increase your grasp of the Turkish language. You learn new words, idioms, proverbs, names and in general the culture and tradition of Turkiye. As international students, we may have our sentiments while watching. However, it is important to focus on the end goal which is learning. Examples of popular and successful series are Sen Çal Kapımı, Kıralık Aşk, Asla Vazgeçmem. Recent ones that have received a lot of reactions include Yalı Çapkını, Bambaşka Biri and Kızılcık Şerbeti. Other series I have watched and which you may be interested in are Kıraz Mevsimi, Baht Oyunu, Kendi Düşen Ağlamaz, Senden Daha Güzel, Aşk Laftan Anlamaz, Yaz Şarkısı, Asla Vazgeçmem and Her Yerde Sen.

Another benefit of seeing these series is that ithey open your mind up to different perspectives about the country; the people, their believes, way of life and even the education system. It also keeps you updated with the trends and happenings.
