In Turkiye, add and drop week takes place in the third or second weeks of resumption depending on the school. In this post, you will find the necessary things that need to be done during this week.
1.Go Over Your Courses Again
The main reason for the add-and-drop week is to go over your chosen courses. Check if there are any compulsory courses that you did not take and take them. Look out for the unnecessary ones and you can drop them. Also, check if there are classes that clash and make necessary changes. During this period, some classes may be closed if the quota for them is too low or if the number of students who chose it does not meet a certain limit. A course can also be closed if the teacher responsible for it may not be available during the semester. All these are the important things you need to look out for.
2. Make Sure to Complete your Credits
This is also the period to make sure that you have taken the required credits for a semester. For example, in Ankara University Faculty of Communication, you are required to take 30 credits in each semester in the first year and in subsequent semesters, you can choose at least 30 credits. It is very necessary to take the required credits for each semester so that in your final year, you do not have issues. For those who have compulsory internships in the final year for example, you are required to have had a certain number of credits by the end of the fall semester such that when your internship starts alongside writing your thesis or project, you will not be attending classes. All of these are put in place to relieve you of that stress.

3.Drop Classes That you do not Like
Yes, I know this one is simple and obvious but it has to be mentioned. You have been given one or two weeks of opportunity to attend the classes, see what the teacher looks like, decide if you will be able to understand his or her classes, and ask relevant questions. If all these do not meet your expectations, it is advisable to drop such a class and choose an easier one. It is pertinent however to note that this applies only to elective courses. Compulsory courses are compulsory!
4.Look Out for New Courses
New classes added in the second or third week are another thing to look out for. This is one I have experienced, whereby a compulsory class was not added to the website until the third day of add and drop week. I noticed this when I went over my classes again. It is important to be alert to updates like this.
Finally, be attentive to every single detail. Your teachers may mention related information in class; your classmates may have some knowledge that you do not. You make the best of this week when you have as enough information as possible.
I wish you all the best.
